Online Proctored Credentialing Exam—Open for Registration Nov. 21
AHDI’s testing partner Kryterion, who administers AHDI credentialing exams, is nearly finished updating their system. AHDI will open Online Proctored (OLP) exam registration Friday, November 21, and OLP exams will be available for testing as soon as Sunday, November 23. These recent updates will allow test takers the ability to use Windows 8 or a Mac computer to take their exam, which previously were incompatible. AHDI test takers can continue to schedule and take Onsite exams and can purchase and take practice exams.

AHDI credentialing exams are administered through AHDI testing partner Kryterion, and candidates seeking access to these exams will have the option to take an exam either on site at a Kryterion testing center or online via secure, online proctoring (OLP). Candidates wishing to take the exam through OLP delivery will be required to meet the technical specifications for compatibility and comply with all online testing security requirements. Information related to online proctoring compatibility and hardware specifications can be found in the Credentialing Candidate Guide or in the Candidate Computer Spec Sheet for Online Proctoring. Candidates wishing to take the exam on site can search for a nearby site via the Kryterion Testing Center Locator. Kryterion offers candidates a comprehensive OLP Test Taker Preparation Manual; candidates who want a better understanding of how online proctoring works and how to ensure technical compatibility should download that manual prior to registering for an OLP exam.

AHDI offers three examination options for candidates seeking the RHDS or CHDS credential:

Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialists (RHDS) Exam — New graduates, specialty MTs, and any healthcare documentation specialist/editor who does not have the minimum 2 years' acute-care experience required for access to the CHDS should seek eligibility to take the RHDS exam. Interested candidates should submit the $10 eligibility fee through the AHDI online store. AHDI will provide an Authorization to Test email confirmation with a login and password to the Kryterion Webassessor™ platform. Eligibility information will be exported to Kryterion, and candidates will pay for and schedule their exams with Kryterion. Pricing is provided below. Candidates should be mindful that rates for on-site testing are higher due to fees charged by Kryterion for exams proctored via a testing center.

    RHDS Pricing (3-hour exam session)

    On-site exam, member: $150.00
    On-site exam, nonmember: $230.00
Online proctored (OLP) exam, member: $100
Online proctored (OLP) exam, nonmember: $180

Certified Healthcare Documentation Specialist (CHDS) — Candidates with the minimum 2 years' acute-care experience required for access to the CHDS who already possess a current RHDS credential should seek eligibility to take the CHDS exam. Current RMTs who are interested in becoming CHDS will need to first bridge to the RHDS prior to applying to sit for the CHDS exam or sit for the CQE Exam.

    On-site exam, nonmember: $280.00

Credential Qualifying Exam (CQE) — Candidates with the minimum 2 years' acute-care experience required for access to the CHDS who do not already possess a current RHDS credential can opt to sit for both Level 1 (RHDS) and Level 2 (CHDS) content in a single session and seek eligibility to take the CQE. RMTs interested in becoming RHDSs may choose to take the CQE exam rather than bridge to the RHDS.

CQE Pricing (5-hour exam session) *

    On-site exam, member: $275.00
    On-site exam, nonmember: $355.00
Online proctored (OLP) exam, member: $225.00  (NOTE: As of November 30, 2013, the OLP CQE will not be offered.)
Online proctored (OLP) exam, nonmember: $305.00 (NOTE: As of November 30, 2013, the OLP CQE will not be offered.)

*NOTE: CQE candidates are given 5 hours to complete both RHDS and CHDS content due to the expectation that CHDS-eligible candidates should not require 3 hours to complete Level 1 content. Any candidate who has concerns about that time frame should consider sitting for the 3-hour RHDS first and attempting the 3-hour CHDS at a later date. The CQE is designed to fast track non-credentialed Level 2 candidates through the 2-part exam process.
