LET US HELP YOU SUCCEED Minimize

This is the year to get certified—and we're going to help you do it!

The Let Us Help You Succeed program is our way of reaching out to MTs and providing them with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to succeed with their credentialing goals.

It’s a forum where we can provide tips on setting a credentialing resolution that you can keep, and a place where we're always cooking up new "Recipes for Success." This is the place to come to help you refocus on your goals and propel yourself forward on the path to achieve them!

Focus of the Month—May

"It's not what you know, it's what you do with what you know." - Unknown

This month's focus is on reassessing your goals and taking ACTION! It's important to take steps to figure out where you stand with your personal goals and what steps you need to take to accomplish them!

Reassess Your Goals
Stop. Right now. Stop and take a look at where you are vs. where you started. Are you any closer to your goals now? What steps did you take to get where you are?

Once you have taken some time to review what you have done, it's time to see if your goals are the same or if they have changed. Pull out the list of goals you started with. Look at each of those goals individually. Are they realistic? Are they achievable? Are they still goals you wish to achieve or should you reevaluate your plan? If some of your goals are the same, is the reason you want them still the same, or has that changed?

Reassessing your goals will help you determine if the way you go about achieving them should remain the same or if you need to change that as well.

Identify the Action Steps You Need to Take
After you've decided which goals you wish to continue pursuing, the next step is to set down with your original action plan and create action steps.

Action steps are the specific efforts you will make to reach your goals. They should explain each goal in detail, how you will achieve that goal, how long it will take you carry those goals to fruition, and what resources you need to accomplish them.

Setting an action plan will help you concentrate on necessary details, decide on workable ways to reach your goals, and save time, energy, and resources.

The Three P’s
Creating action steps and carrying them out can be difficult. That’s why it's important to realize the trials that may lie ahead and prepare for them. There are three P’s that you will likely rely on to accomplish these goals once you have your action plan in place—Persistence, Perseverance, and Patience.

Be persistent. It's important to make sure that you don't give up at small obstacles—especially when you're not feeling motivated. Persistence can't be subjective to your mood; wanting to be persistent while waiting for your mood to stabilize will make this a long journey. So keep plowing forward and keep your goals in sight!

Persevere. Perseverance is a steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, especially in spite of difficulties or discouragement. It's important to persevere through difficult times, and preparing for an important examination can most definitely be considered difficult! Get through that "stuck" feeling and move forward to becoming credentialed!

Patience. This is a virtue that not all of us have, and learning it is very difficult. Understand your weaknesses and be patient with yourself while you work on achieving your goals. Being too hard on yourself doesn't accomplish anything—just stop and give yourself a few minutes to compose your thoughts, then persevere!

QUOTE OF THE MONTH Minimize

"Do I think I need the RMT, CMT credential? Yes, I do, but more than that, to me it has an intrinsic value of saying, I set a goal and I achieved it. I think all of us at some level need goals, even in our work, and achieving a goal really helps a person to feel good about themselves and more confident in what they do"
