In last month's President's Message I wrote about the importance of recruiting new, younger members into our association. Thanks to the innovative thinking of AHDI's Membership Development Workgroup and the approval of the National Leadership Board, as of Feb. 1 all new student membership fees have been waived. The "Building Futures" program is intended to encourage student membership as a way of introducing new, younger members to the benefits of belonging to AHDI. In conjunction with waiving new student membership fees, the Membership Development Workgroup recommended a sponsorship program to allow individual, corporate, and institutional members to contribute to this worthy cause and make up for the revenue which student membership fees normally generate. I'm thrilled to report that Building Futures is already a smashing success! Just since Feb. 1 our new student memberships have increased dramatically, and we have already surpassed our sponsorship goal for the entire year. This is a great example of how AHDI is reaching outside the walls of "business as usual" and finding creative ways to engage healthcare documentation specialists early in their careers. My sincere thanks to the Membership Development Workgroup, the National Leadership Board, and the Building Futures sponsors who have come together to make this endeavor a reality. When we put our minds and our hearts into something worthwhile, things get done and our association and our profession is strengthened. Well done all!
