|Preparing for Your Exam|
Successful completion of AHDI credentialing exams will depend not only on training and experience but very often on focused exam preparation and study. A goal-oriented approach to preparation can make the difference between earning and not earning your credential. Candidates should consider any or all of the following recommendations for exam prep, independent exercise, and/or collaborative group study:
Understand the Exam Blue Print
The 130 items on the RHDS exam and the 120 items on the CHDS exam (250 total items on the combined RHDS/CHDS credentialing qualifying exam) come from specific core competency objectives outlined on the exam blue prints for each exam. Understanding competencies to be evaluated for each objective will guide you in your studies. Blue prints for both exams, sample assessment items, and FAQs are in the Credentialing Candidate Guide (free download).
Invest in Exam Prep Resources
Please note: The RMT and CMT Review Guides published by Stedman’s were not written according to the current RHDS and CHDS exam blue prints. Other supplemental study will be required if those resources are used, but the majority of the clinical and style content in these publications is still valid and aligns with the core competency objectives housed on the current exam blue prints.
Join a Study Group or Start Your Own
AHDI offers online RHDS and CHDS Study Courses that run for 12 weeks each. AHDI components and industry employers may also organize study groups, or you may host your own.
Take a Practice Exam
The practice exams are designed to parallel the weight and balance of objectives on the RHDS and CHDS exams. You will be tested on potential content domains from the exam blue prints, respectively, to give you an overall impression of exam scope and format, and to acclimate you with the testing environment. At the end of the Practice Exam you will receive feedback on items answered incorrectly. These are non-proctored sessions and require the use of Internet Explorer web browser. Learn more.
Join the Credentialing Support Group
AHDI hosts a virtual support group to connect you with fellow HDSs who are pursuing certification. It's operated using Google Groups and functions as an email listserv. After you request to join the group and it is approved by our administrator, you will receive instructions by email.
