Healthcare Documentation: The Career That Moves with You
The ideal career for military spouses
Many healthcare documentation specialists (e.g., medical transcriptionists, speech recognition editors) work from their homes as independent contractors, subcontractors, or home-based employees. Because many employers and contractors receive and submit work over the Internet, making this a portable career that will move with you. To learn more about healthcare documentation, please visit our Becoming a Healthcare Documentation Specialist page.
Becoming a member of AHDI will provide military spouses with access to resources, information, events, and services that empower them to make informed choices about a career in medical transcription, and help ensure successful career outcomes. Together, we work to advance the profession through legislative advocacy, standard-setting, and professional development.
Funding resources for military spouse education
Several of the AHDI-approved educational programs accept federal Pell Grants, Sallie Mae Educational Loans, VA funds and GI Bills, as well as offer payment plans and military spouse discounts. In addition, there are some community-based programs providing support to military personnel from those communities.
