Dr. Richard Lederer, Usage Editor of The Random House Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary of the English Language, author of The Write Way, and longtime contributor to AHDI publications, will offer a common-sense approach to grammar and usage with this two-hour workshop. Where do you stand on terminal prepositions, split infinitives, “hopefully” as a floating adverb, “impact” as a verb, and “they” as a third-person singular pronoun? These issues and more will be addressed, including an extended Q&A session with Dr. Lederer at the end of the workshop where you’ll have an opportunity to “ask the grammar expert” about everything from puns to punctuation, pronouns to pronunciation, and diction to dictionaries. Richard Lederer is the author of more than 30 books about language, history, and humor, including his bestselling Anguished English series and his current books, A Treasury for Dog Lovers and A Treasury for Cat Lovers. He has been profiled in magazines as diverse as The New Yorker, People, and the National Enquirer and frequently appears on radio as a commentator on language. Dr. Lederer’s column, “Looking at Language,” has appeared for many years in AHDI publications. He has been named international Punster of the Year and Toastmasters International’s Golden Gavel winner.
