As technologies such as clinical language understanding (aka, natural language processing), quality analytics, and computer-assisted coding gain broader adoption and the transition to ICD-10 rapidly approaches, speculation has intensified over the future of medical transcription. This session will review these specific developments and their implications for the MT role in capturing and fully utilizing timely, accurate, structured, and unstructured clinical information. It will also look to similar transformations in other non-healthcare industries – technical authoring, language translation, etc. – for clues as to what this future might hold and what MTs and vendors can do to ensure they are prepared for this ongoing evolution.
