Employment Opportunities for MT Graduates
Contact the instructor and administrators of your school to see whether they have a service to assist in
placement. Learn what contacts with industry employers they have that might open a door for you. Use the
school’s informational message board and talk with fellow graduates. Learn how and where they found
jobs. Should you be hired by the same company, you can continue networking with your school friends.
Take some of the online screening employment tests offered by many employers. If you score extremely
high, some companies may recognize your potential and consider you for their next entry-level opening, even
if your experience is not as much as 2 years. If they do not hire you, you will have had the experience of
online testing and possibly an interview, both of which will be beneficial in the future.
If your preferred company to work for is not hiring at the present time, let them know they are your first
choice and why. Inform them you may take a job elsewhere in the meantime. Ask them to keep your name at the
top of their list.
Visit online forums in our industry where transcriptionists share information and experiences with each
other. You may find that individuals in those communities have had experience with or could share insights
about where you could find such employment. Avoid becoming caught up in negative comments about corporations
and schools. It is unprofessional. One person’s impossible situation is another person’s
opportunity.
Meanwhile, before graduation, join the thriving student community for students at AHDI to receive special
rates for student memberships as well as products. If you would like more information about the Student
Alliance, student discounts on products, membership, insurance, event registrations; publications, Help Desk,
mentoring, continuing education, etc., please click here.
HEALTHeCAREERS provides AHDI with an
extensive job bank. The AHDI Career Connection, located under "Employment Resources" has a plethora
of job advertisements in the medical profession. As an AHDI member, you can create and post your resume, apply
for jobs and see how many responses you've received. You can even see how many have reviewed your ad.
Above all, remain networked. Allow time every day to connect with other MTs. There is much additional help
from our organization available as your career advances. Keep your membership in AHDI current.
