Industry News & Trends
It should be the core goal of any professional association to play a watchful role in the industry –
monitoring trends, practices and emerging technologies that have the potential to alter or shape the
profession and its practitioners. Providing vigilant oversight and regular communication of trends and
practices to our members is inherent in AHDI’s mission to direct the evolution of medical
transcription.
To that end, AHDI has established initiatives and special interest groups to keep an eye on critical trends
in the industry and work toward educating our members about those trends - establishing guidelines, standards,
and documentation to assist in those goals where appropriate.
Technology
Per the Transcription Futures Group report found here, changes in technology will
be the single greatest driver of change in healthcare documentation over the next decade and beyond.
Understanding how emerging technologies will impact medical transcription and practitioners is a critical focus
of our organization.
Standards of Practice
AHDI has been working on its own and with industry partners to establish standards in the unregulated
industry of healthcare documentation since the Association was founded. Standards exist to promote consistency,
clarity, and accountability in any profession. They have the potential to shape quality outcomes for patient
care documentation and to promote patient safety, continuity of care, and maximized reimbursement.
