AHDI Leadership Institute
Preparing Tomorrow’s Leaders Today
If you’ve ever heard the phrase “born leader,” you may have assumed that the ability to lead is predetermined at birth. While some seem to have a predisposition and affinity for it, the leadership skill set is one that for most people must be intentionally sought, learned and perfected.
At a time in healthcare delivery when tough decisions are being made in the arena of health data capture and documentation, the industry needs leaders of integrity, preparation, and intuitive judgment leading and guiding the next generation workforce. Recognizing the fact that leadership is rarely ever developed in a vacuum, AHDI has created a leadership growth track for its members and others in the industry looking to step into professional leadership roles.
Learning how to build relationships and motivate a team of individuals toward an inspired goal, whether at the corporate or volunteer level, is a challenge not for the faint of heart and certainly not one to be embraced without preparation and the right toolbox of interpersonal, communication, and management tools. Dynamic writing, public speaking, critical thinking — these are all powerful leadership tools, but they require practice and commitment to master. Leadership guru Steven Covey refers to this as “sharpening the saw.” No tool will yield the results you seek unless it is honed. In fact, in many instances, attempting to wield an unsharpened saw will result in disaster. The challenge, however, is finding the right resources to sharpen those skills. Some leadership skills can be caught through the modeled behavior of those around us, but most of them quite simply must be taught.
For that reason, AHDI has developed this Leadership Institute to provide intentional, focused training in leadership. The Institute is a comprehensive certificate program consisting of 15 courses over a variety of disciplines. Each course will be taught via webinar and/or on-site at an AHDI event, will last anywhere from 1-1/2 to 3 hours, and will provide focused instruction in leadership core skill areas. Some of the leadership coursework offered here is specific to the skill set needed within the non-profit association leadership setting, but most are designed to provide training in the kinds of leadership skills that are needed in any professional interpersonal environment. The Institute and its classes are ideally suited for current and future AHDI component leaders, AHDI delegates, and future AHDI directors. They are also designed to provide skill set training to medical transcription managers, supervisors, authors, editors, business owners, and anyone else in industry leadership.
Whether you are currently struggling in a leadership role or have aspirations to grow into leadership in the near future, you will want to take advantage of the resource training offered through this Leadership Institute. Each course will provide you practical, tips-focused training in key leadership areas. If you need to hone those public speaking skills or sharpen that writing saw, this is the place to do it. If you’re stepping into AHDI leadership, this will also be the resource to prepare you for understanding association governance, finances, advocacy, industry trends, and so much more.
Also, all of the courses offered through the Institute can be used for continuing education credit by CMTs when seeking recertification. Refer to the course offerings in the catalog below for the number and type of credit assigned to each course.
