Student Alliance
The Student Alliance hopes that by encouraging students and postgraduates to become involved, they will learn just how much AHDI has to offer and how much they have to offer AHDI. This synergy will carry over as they transition to Individual Professional membership and apply their skills to offices at the state and national levels. Involvement in the Student Alliance will be instrumental in shaping the coming age of medical transcription.
Purpose: To create an alliance of students and postgraduates who will educate new members on AHDI benefits currently available, as well as assist with the creation and implementation of new benefits tailored to the unique needs of its members. The group's focus is to educate students and postgraduates on the purpose, structure and goals of AHDI and to bridge the gap between student and individual professional membership. The AHDI Student Alliance is designed to serve as a voice for its members at all levels of the organization, pushing for visibility and respectability and presenting issues relevant to students' needs.
Special Interest Group Definition: A special interest group of the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) is a group of members with common interests joining together to communicate and address issues of concern within their group, developing educational material and activities relevant to their special interest.
Memberhip: Membership in this special interest group is a benefit of Student or Postgraduate membership in AHDI. There is no additional fee or registration for this group. Student and Postgraduate members are encouraged to register on the Student Alliance Website, the primary source of communication for the Alliance.
PostGrad Mentorship program: For all new graduates who are about to enter the professional medical transcription field after successfully completing their training. We are offering a short-term mentorship (30-60 days) in which postgrads will be paired with a mentor to help make the transition from the classroom to a working MT as smooth as possible.

Major Goals of the Student Alliance:
1. Structure: The Alliance will develop appropriate projects to help achieve our goals based upon AHDI guidelines.
2. Mentoring/Partnerships: The Alliance will address the prevailing concern among MT students regarding their expectations of immediate employment post graduation.
3. Communication and Networking: The Alliance will disseminate information to AHDI Student members that clearly outlines the benefits of effective networking.
4. Technology: The Alliance will address the fact that students are often intimidated by the disorienting array of technology available for the aspiring transcriptionist.
5. Membership: The Alliance will market AHDI to potential members in MT education programs by providing information regarding the benefits of membership in AHDI and the Student Alliance.
6. Legislative: A student liaison will be appointed to the AHDI Legislative Issues Group to keep current on issues of concern to Student and Postgraduate members and to report results to the Alliance.
7. Recognition: The Alliance will develop, implement and promote a program to recognize distinguished Postgraduate and Student members.
