Members of the SR Best Practices task force will present an interactive panel discussion on SR best practices. The Speech Recognition Implementation Best Practices Toolkit provides tips on how to use the materials provided to determine how best to approach speech recognition for a successful outcome. Materials include a sample RFP, project implementation plan, check sheets for implementation, and more. This session will be especially well suited for managers, directors, business owners, and vendors.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Determine if and how speech recognition may improve your facility’s healthcare documentation.
  2. Learn how to develop an RFP (Response for Proposal) to ensure the best outcome for your organization.
  3. Learn how to implement speech recognition from the vendor, technical, and operational perspectives.
  4. Learn how to track your progress and improve your outcomes.



Patricia (Patt) King is manager of HIM Transcription for Tucson Medical Center and TMC Healthcare in Tucson, Arizona. Patt is experienced in all aspects of transcription, having served as a transcriptionist, independent contractor/business owner, speech editor, lead, trainer, quality assurance specialist, supervisor, and manager over her 30+ years in the profession. Patt was involved in the creation of AHDI’s Compensation Best Practices Toolkit in 2015 and is currently a member of AHDI’s Managers/Supervisors Alliance.


Sherry Doggett is Past President of the AHDI National Leadership Board (2011-2012) and completed two terms on the national board. She served as chair of the QA for EHR Clinician Created Documentation task force, a joint project supported by AHIMA and AHDI. She is an active member of the AHDI Managers/Supervisors Steering Committee and served as chair of the AHDI National Past Presidents Council.  Sherry retired in 2013, as Director of Corporate Transcription Services UC Health in Cincinnati, Ohio, a multi-hospital integrated delivery system. She was part of the UC Health IT leadership team and active in UC Health’s Epic implementation.
