The Internet is a powerful tool in the hands of an experienced researcher. Today’s healthcare documentation/transcription student may find that the volume of material on the Internet is overwhelming. You also may be wondering such questions as: How do you know if a site is safe or if the information there is reliable? Why do I find conflicting information? How do I make my searches specific? This presentation will cover the importance of research in the process of transcription. Research guidelines, websites, search techniques, tips, and tricks will be shared and discussed. Students and practitioners alike will gain knowledge of the different types of websites, how to recognize resources, how to optimize searching, and verify results are accurate.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the history of the Internet.
  2. Identify reliable Internet sites.
  3. Understand how to maximize search results using key terms and phrases.
  4. Understand how to compare sites and verify results.
